How to Delete Corrupted File Segments in Windows XP

Right-click on your main hard drive's icon in the My Computer window. Choose the "Properties" option. Click "Tools."

Choose the "Check Now" option under the Error Checking heading. Select the "Automatically fix file system errors" option, then click "Start." Windows XP will find and repair corrupt files and file segments. Close the window when finished.

Click on the Start menu. Type "Disk Cleanup" in the Search box. Click on the Disk Cleanup icon that appears.

Click on your main hard drive when it appears in the window. Click "OK." Click on the "Disk Cleanup" tab and select all file types. Click "OK."

Click "Delete Files" in the box that appears to erase any remaining corrupt file segments on your machine
